My 1976 F-250 needs a new steering wheel bad. The old one is cracked down to the steel on both sides and the horn button disintegrated. I've checked Cal Custom and local stores but all they stock are wheels for new cars and trucks. Does anyone know of a manufacturer of classic hot rod style steering wheels that will fit my truck? A link to a website would be way cool.
It's a little unclear, are you looking for an OEM replacement or aftermarket "custom" style?
For OEM, look through salvage yards and the classifieds and online store on this site. A smaller OEM wheel from an 80's F150 will fit onto your '73-'79, some even had a padded wheel.
Most any aftermarket wheel will fit, you just need the correct installation kit. Grant makes lots of good style/quality wheels.
When selecting a smaller wheel, keep in mind being able to see the guages, I didn't. I have a 11" wheel in my '73, it's comfortable to drive with but I'm 6'1" and the wheel covers up the top of the speedo and the oil and amp guages - can't see them without leaning forward. It's not bad now that I'm used to it, but it was very irritating at first.
I concur, 73, I have a 13" Grant on my 77 F-350. Love it, turns them fat tires nice and easy. I ran into the same trouble with the gauges, but fixed that problem when I built the custom dash and moved everything
Yes I have a Grant too...nice and easy turning. I got the wheel and the adaptor kit at Advance Auto. Wheel was a cheap $29.99 and the kit was $14.99. The wheel will list the kit it needs on the back of the box. BTW, make sure you don't forget about getting the turn signal to kick off after you turn.
