I change the oil as directed by the Oil Life Monitor. ( usually about every 9.000)
I change air and fuel filters every other oil change.( usually about every 18,000)
I change the Coolant and tranny fluids around 70,000-80,000
For me Brakes have needed work around 70,000- 80,000 miles
Batteries seem to need replacing at 36 months.

To the OP, rented a Class C RV in Alaska, that was basically a Ford truck with a truck camper. It screamed and whined a lot. Anything other than level ground, it was whining away at 3500 - 4500 rpms. But if you don't tow our haul much, or rarely, I think gas would be the way to go
That being said, I got the diesel. You can hardly tell while driving it. This thing rides better and quieter than my car, despite being outfitted to pull a house off the foundation if needed.
