Thanks for all the replies. If I decide on the f250 with the current body style I will sure buy new. The used market is to high. I’m also possibly open to a f150 with the 5.0 motor. I’ll keep my eyes open , and do more research. I used to own a 5.7 tundra that I traded in when our second child was born. But over the last week I had a 2018 f250 crew cab as a rental ( struck a deer with my other vehicle). The wife and I really liked it, and it was large enough for the kids. So that’s how I got here. Anyway thanks for the suggestions!
If you keep looking and don’t rush you can find a good deal on a used. I got my 17 F250 lariat ultimate 6.7 with 15k miles for $53k. I was leaning hard toward new since I don’t like buying used but equally equipped new was $71 when I built it on the ford website. Plus I got it from a small family dealer and got $4k more for my F150 than any of the dealers were willing to do.

Prices are all over the place for used Superduty trucks. I was given more than $53k trade in on my 2017 F350 and $8000 off MSRP on my ordered 2019 Lariat Ultimate F350.
i traded in my 2017 F350 SRW value pkg with 19,950 miles on it. The original MSRP was $66,200. Paid $61,200. Dealer has it listed for $57,211.
they didn’t even fix the small dent over the rt rear taillight.
bought new through the Costco auto program, and paid 43.8 on a 18 ccsb 6.2 xlt with most of the options I wanted. used prices on these trucks are a bit unreal
I was looking at used also and found no shortage of 250 crew cabs, basic xlt that were rentals ( '18) with 1200 miles, asking around $ 38,000. But I'll probably go with new and get an xl with the stx and a couple other options.
I'll be paying a little bit more but it'll be a '19 with full warranty
I have a great relationship with my dealer. They love my trades, give me good trade in values, and offer me great deals on the new trucks. Ironically enough, I think the high used market actually helps new truck buyers too who are trading in.

I agree that high used market plus $3k PCO Pushed me into trading my 17 on a 19.
My 17 lost $350 in value for each month of ownership when I traded it in on a 2019 F350. You couldn’t negotiate a 2 year lease on a $66,000 MSRP truck for $350/mo.
Couple that with X-plan, Ford cash rebate and $3,000 PCO on my ordered 2019 Lariat and I was very happy with the deal.
Between 1998-2002 I traded in my F150s every year. One year after purchasing a F150 with x-plan I only lost $1500 when trading. My 2019 F350 is my 56th new car purchase since 1970.
When I was looking for my 2017 I looked used first, the best I could find after months of searching was a 2016 with 40k miles for $5k less than a brand new 2017....and thats a completely different body style. Just doesn't make sense, but someone must be buying them.

My friend and I were talking about this yesterday. You can no longer find a decent used vehicle at a reasonable discount. 10-20 years ago, you could buy a 5-6 year old vehicle at 50% or better discount. I bought a 1991 5.0 Mustang in 96 for $5800. I bought a 2001 Audi A6 2.7t in 07 for $8500. A 1999 F-150 in 2005 for $5000. It's not like that anymore. You have to go back 10+ years to find something at a discount like that.
Love the comparison to the 2 year lease. You're right - you could never touch $350 per month. It's nice to see someone else who analyzes things the way I do. And it's not only so I can justify it to my wife!
Ultimately decided to go new for a few reasons.
Friend at work, his father in law buys and sells vehicles. He was saying he almost always get burned by super duty trucks. People over pull with them, or do something otherwise silly and hurt the truck.
That combined with stories i've read/heard about long haul transport guys gutting trucks, then putting them back together and passing off a 300k mile rig as a lower mile truck got to me.
We found a 2015 F-350 KR that had about 22k on it that we really liked, but ultimately ended up spending 15k more on a '19 F-450. We got exactly the truck we wanted, and don't have to worry about where the truck has been at a price overhead that we felt was worth it.
