Hi All,
New to the forum and wanted some advice/recommendations on what brakes/rotors to put on my 2010 F150. It's the 5.4 engine XLT package with 112k miles on it.
I have been searching the forums looking for the best option for me to replace my front pads/rotors and am a bit stuck.
Some background:
- live up north with brutal winters and also see salt/brine roads frequently.
-I do not tow very often (boat, trailer) and but do hunt frequently so will see some nasty roads from time to time.
-Plan on having my truck another 5-8 years (112k miles)
-Want reliability and longevity
I have been looking at the below options but am open to other recommendations for my situation. I am not afraid to spend a bit more than midline but if I don't need the benefits in my situation I will just stick with the middle of the road brands.
Let me know your thoughts thank you!
Lots of people seem to recommend Motorcraft or Power Stop so I have been checking those out. I also have been looking at O'Reilly Auto Parts' brand "Brake Best"
Power Stop:
I did a four wheel brake job earlier this summer. I used autozone gold rotors (3 year warranty) and Motorcraft pads. I have about 5K miles on them now, no issues.
I have the "base" powerstop kit from rockauto. They are non drilled/slotted, not into that myself. Seem to work as well as OEM, maybe a little better. I rarely tow however.
Be sure that whatever you get, follow the bedding procedure to a T. Very important to prevent pulsation.

I ended up going with the base kit as well. $140 on Amazon. I didn't like the potential negatives with the drilled/slotted either.
Hope they work well, how have the pads been so far? Any brakedust?
There is brake dust that accumulates over time. For me, it starts getting bad at about the 2-3 month point (which then reminds me when I need to wash the truck). It's no worse than my oem ones were.
Hope you have good luck with them. Again, be sure to follow the bedding procedure exactly, don't skip that.
I live in the rust belt too, hopefully your rotors come off easier than mine. My OEs didn't have the threaded hole that could be used to pull it from the hub so sledgehammer it was.
