Good Day. I have recently acquired an 88 ranger regular cab 2.3l 5speed 4wd. I bought it with the motor in the bed. Come to find out, it is a 2.3l from a Tempo and will not work. I have found a 2.3l in a bit newer ranger, I believe it is a 91. What I am looking for is engine wiring diagrams for both trucks to see what I might have problems with. I will verify the year for the new motor.
ALso I need the rear drive shaft. From what i can find, any drive shaft from an 85, 87 or 88 should work. Is this correct?
This was suppose to be a nice cheap project, and obviously it is not turning out that way.
The first rule of engine swaps is to not use any wring that comes with the donor motor.. where possible. Do you have the original engine harness?
I ran into the same thing when I replaced the engine in my '83 Ranger, The donor was from a Mustang and the intake had to be changed before it would fit. In your case if you don't have the original truck motor then those parts are missing.
Well, went and looked a little closer at the donor. It is a DIS motor, and my truck had a distributor. I believe this makes a big difference in the drop in possibilities. Might have to look around for a different engine.
OK, do you have the original engine wiring harness? If you do then it'll be a lot easier to buy a distributor and whatever other '88 parts you need to make it work.
