Hey everyone, hows it going? I am having an issue with my 06 6.0 that I just can't seem to figure out so a buddy suggested that I make a post here.
When driving down the road and the truck is working just fine, it will randomly just drop in rpm down to about 1200. If I press the petal down more to increase speed it just smokes because the turbo is lagging from low rpm. But if I take my foot completely off the petal and put it back on the rpms will go up to where they should be for a moment them randomly drop again and lag. The truck is an auto, not sure if its just shifting into too high of a gear or what.
The truck does have an sct tuner. I tried placing it back to stock, still had the issue. I tried reflashing the tune, still has the issue. Issue seems to only happen above speeds of like 45. Any tips would be completely appreciated.
also, I did try having the truck scanned (at autozone so i know its not the best) and the only thing that came up is no. 7 glowplug.
Need to know what the oil and coolant temps are when this happens (need a scan tool to pull that info from the PCM). get the information when driving.
What is the boost reading when it happens?
Fuel tank level?
Battery voltage?
I paid close attention to my pillar gauge while driving and although I know these arent the most accurate I thought I would report my findings:
Boost: at steady crusing around 50 mph boost was about 12lbs after issue dropped to about 10
Oil Pressure: Around 80 psi while cruising dropped to about 75 psi after issue
Fuel Pressure: Remained at around 60 psi
Batteries are brand new, and currently has about 1/4 tank.
Truck was sitting for a while before this due to needing some other work, is it possible a clogged/bad fuel filter could be causing this issue?
Without a scangauge or other form of monitoring device you are shoting in the dark, though it might not seem like it, it is much cheaper to buy the aforementioned device and see what is really going on than guessing and throwing parts at it. I bought my Scangauge from Bullit Proof Diesel, it came preprogrammed for the truck and tells me a whole bunch of pertinate information for properly diagnosing what you have going on....
Get at least a scan guage, or an odbII bluetooth reader an torque. There's a lot of stuff your pillar gauges aren't telling you. Scangauge II (red packaging) can be picked up at Autozone.
Fill your tank up to at least 1/2 full and test it again. Almost sounds like a fuel suction leak at the pickup foot.
That is why Mark was asking about the fuel level. Autozone does have a tool that will give useful data. The
Scanguage II is about $160ish and you can get them for a bit less with come on line purchase codes. If you
don't mind waiting then there is the ELM device you plug into the OBD2 port and just download some of the
apps for your smart phone or tablet.
Hey guys! Sorry it took so long for my to get back to this. I finally had a chance to pick up the Scan gauge 2. The only code that showed was the #7 glow plug. However I did notice something while monitoring it while driving.
The manifold absolute pressure was around 14.7-15 while idling, but when accelerating at high way speeds reached up to 35 psi under normal acceleration. Then when getting on it quickly it drops to 0. Does this sound like a faulty map sensor?
The best way to tell would be to "T" in a known mechanical or an electronic transducer type and see if the numbers match.
Now you could get a 0 when waiting on the turbo to spool up. But seeing a 35 PSI would make me question things.
That is why the added pressure gauge to check the numbers with. You want to read both from the same point that the
one in question is getting it's air from.
Be sure to inspect the MAP hose for any cracks or bad areas.
Also, clean the MAP nipple that comes off the intake. Take a bit of weed trimmer line and run it down inside, see if it comes back out all dirty.
This is a common place to have things gum up.
I still need to check my map sensor, a friend is going to let me put his on my truck.
today I checked my icp icv and ipr. At Idle my icp reads 581 with a 0.82 icp voltage and ipr of 24.6.
at high idle and cruising down the road my icp wont go past around 1159 with a icp voltage of 1.39, even under hard acceleration the absolute highest icp reading I got was around 1400 I believe. does this seem odd?
