Speedo gears

So my speedo on my truck has never worked and it looks as though the previous owner removed the driven speedo gear in the transfer case and broke off the end of the speedo cable which had the cable speedo gear on it. Could anyone shed some light on this? It's a 1984 f250 6.9 has a BW1356, 3.52 gears and stock 235/85-16 tires. I did some research myself and think it should be the yellow 7 tooth driven gear and a 16 tooth speedo gear? Also using the 8 tooth driven gear which is another color I'd have to use an 18 tooth gear? I'm honestly not sure and want to get it right the first time.

A/T or M/T?

The DRIVE gear is on the output shaft, the DRIVEN gear is at the end of the cable. The 7T DRIVE gear is blue if you have a M/T

There's no AXLE ratio of 3.52.

EOTZ-17260-D .. Speedometer Cable - 90" long / Obsolete ~ 9 available NOS

1980/86 F150/350 4WD & Bronco.

Should have double checked my post. It's the T19 manual and it has 3.54 gears. Ok So 7 tooth blue would be the correct drive gear? The 7 tooth gears i've seen online have been yellow. Are the yellow ones from the auto?

Would it make a difference if auto or stick trany being it has a transfer case?
The last I knew the speedo went into the case not the trany.

I can't see it making a difference. A blue 7 tooth gear or yellow 7 tooth gear seems like they would do exactly the same thing. If you have a 4x4 it goes into the transfer case but if you're 2wd then it goes into the transmission.

Well Bill asked if A/T or M/T because if you had a 4x2 the speedo goes in the trany as guessing uses 2 different gears based on trany type.
Now you have a TFC so that speedo goes in the case not the trany so want to make sure you get the right parts to work for a 4x4 is all.

Sounds good. I'll order a 7 tooth drive gear and I already have a 16 tooth driven gear laying around from another project. We'll see how it goes. Thanks guys

The reason I asked what the trans type is:

IF you have an A/T (C6), the DRIVE gear is made as part of the output shaft, cannot be replaced by itself.

With a M/T, the DRIVE gear is replaceable.

Pic: Where is the yellow DRIVE gear? No see um.

I said yellow because when you search for BW1356 drive gears they don't always show up as the same color originally in the truck. Aftermarket seems to change colors to whatever they want. Driven gears may be a different story. The one I ordered was a 7 tooth. Another issue I may have to deal with is that little steel ball that holds the gear from spinning Hopefully I can find something around here to use instead.
