O.K. theres some kids at school that want to hook bumpers with my truck. Its a 89 f 150 with the big six granny low transmission with 3.08 gears and an aftermarket posi rearend. The other trucks are an old IH Scout with a 304 V8 4x4, a 87 jeep rangler 4.0 4x4 and a lowered mazda b2600 with a 4 banger. I know i can beat the mazda but what about the others?
if ya cant beat the mazda i feel bad for you, you should be able to beat the jeep because you have a much greater weight and tourqe advantage but the scout might be the problem
turn ur drop hitch up side down so it goes up, and lock ur brakes up when he starts and get his tires spinnin, then its on the gas and pullin that scouts a$$
hmm dont worry bout that jeep and mazda. but that scout hmm i beet hill get ya only if he knows what he is doing . ive hooked alot of kids that all they want to do is mash the go peadle.thats a no no hmm and them 3.08 gears is your down fall i have 3.55 and when i hook i put on a set of 31s and i can get most people ive pull my buddys 6.5 turbo diesel a few time but if he hook to the fith wheel he yanks me around. ive tryed to pull a older scout with that 304 and a 4 speed with 4.56 and 33s he walked me like a b!t(h . o and if your not hookin on pavment dont waste your time. o and if u do it the same as we do your not aloud to hold the brakes so what i do is hold the gas and like 850-1000 rpms it will hold u and whne you here his tires spining get in it slow not so slow to were he can tap his brakes and get on his gas.o and if u can hide some weight. and make sure u get someone to take some pics

i've had so many offer to hook bumpers and when they see i have a 300 they make an excuse. but u should (will) tug the heep and mazda easily. the scout should be another easy kill. remember traction and leverage are what u want in hooking up bumpers.
i have a question tho, so say i wanna hook to someone. i get the chain all hooked up and were ready to go. i would just give it a little gas to bring it to the peak torque and leave it there? and then slowly give it gas when his tires start to spin? what if they dont?
alright, sounds good. i wish someone would just hook up. BTW im gettin some tow hooks bolted to the frame so i dont acutally rip my bumper off (its pretty messed up from off-roadin and has been bent, bent back and re-bent many times)...
yea ive never had my bumper bend but i stoped hooking to it after i hooked m buddys brand new drango i put his bumper in a vee then we went to the shop he got it at told them that he was pulling a trailer they were in aaa by it. o and how u like that cam im thinking of geting one
i realy dont think youll have too much of a problem beating that IH. Im not famialiar whith the 304 (isnt that and AMC v-8?) but you should have a wieght advantage over him and you do have that nice ganny gear. Just remeber to use your clutch and not just mash the gas, once you start spinning its hard to get em hooked again.
beware of the scout. . . my old man had one that had a NP435 (6.7 1st gear), a 2.7:1 reduction transfer case, then it had a 4.56 rear end. that comes out to about 82.5:1 reduction. That truck would only do 50-55 mph but it'd run 50 up a cliff. The Scout is also frickin heavy, i'll bet it weighs more than your F-150. If he slips that thing into 4 low super low and locks out the front hubs so long as he doesn't bust the tires loose he'll drag you all over that parking lot. Think of all the weight he'll have over the front axle. Even if you say no 4-wheel he can still go to 4 low superlow and not lock out the hubs, then he'll be in super super low 2wd. Pray he doesn't know what he's doing. . . .
I "hooked" bumpers with a 304 Scout once when my 83' Bronco was stock. it came down to who's clutch slipped worse. HIS did
and a helpful hint, try to hook your side as high as you can, it help the other person "pull down" on your rig and transfer more wieght to your tires and "lift up" on there rig.
