Yes, TOTAL CRAP THIN
But honestl it's about 16ga metal on the bed cross members. The 97 and older heavy duty trucks used a single heavier gauge cross member that had zero rust issues. Then like typical "progression" some designer felt a thinner crossmember with a cap at the bed bolt location is better. All that did was make an already weak design weaker by adding more surface area for salt and water to get between and rot the thinner metal even faster
Guys are buying the Dorman replacement members for I think 300 or 400 dollars? Personally I'd never do that, a simple phone call to the local steel yard to give them measurements on what gauge steel and bands to make me is what I was quoted 200 dollars. I can get 14ga or 12ga galvanized bent i to the proper u shape, tack welding is a little but harder and my shop fan will be needed to help remove the fumes but to me that's the ultimate fix. If not simple square stock has been used numerous times with fantastic results
