Talking '67 4WD bed work

I am helping a friend restore the bed on his '67 F100 (special edition)

It has an 8' bed on it..........I was wondering...what is the best gauge metal to put in the bottom of that bed..

Truthfuly the only thing holding the bed together is the bird cr*p..

We were going to put the metal in by sheets...........then mig weld them in

I need to get this done so i can take it down some of the old logging trails around here...

-Choperj

Thanks...........

You can buy replacement panels to weld together if you like. The FTE store has them. These are 19 gauge steel, 48"x16" panels...

go down to your local steel company and pick you up a 4'x8' sheet of 10 gauge, it'll be tough as hell and you wont wear it out in this lifetime... NO thicker or it gets too heavy. or better yet, a piece of "diamond plate" steel would be better and not so slick when wet.

not factory, but much more heavy duty, since the truck is a 1/2 ton you may want to go a little lighter... 12 or 14 maybe.
