I just pulled up some old pics from when I first got the truck, after zooming in, yep the gaps were there then too. so I bet you are correct.
ok smart guy any idea if I can keep the base and just replace the housing?

I don't think so. They are listed 55 only and 56 only. The bases are different. The only thing that interchanges is the lense and gasket

for years the 55 style were not being reproduced and the catalog companies said to use 56 style. And that's what probably is what your truck has

Abe, they look really good. I did new lenz and gaskets when i did mine. Somewhere along the line, someone had spray painted theoriginal ones when they smeared paint on the truck. I sandblasted the base and frames, new lenz.
