Gentlemen,

I know this is an old thread, but I'm searching for info on SBF fitment...specifically a 302 in a '52 M1.

Those of you that offset the engine to the right by and inch or two, I am assuming you did not utilize the stock battery tray location?

If not, where did you put the battery?

It seems like a good idea to offset it to the right, to even up with the Explorer 8.8 if nothing else, but can I leave the battery tray where it is?

I was hoping the to leave the battery tray in place and run a firewall brake booster also.

Mine's 3/4" to the passenger side and it clears the battery tray just fine, even with longtubes. Ignore the mess it's clean and tidy now.

I think there's enough space to move it at least 1-1/2" over without the headers. I just offset it to clear the steering box.

If you are running longtubes though I wouldn't go any farther than an inch as it's just about to compete with the shackle pin nut on my setup, but moving it farther back might get past that.

Thanks Steve, appreciate the reply!

I'll be running shorty block-hugger headers, so I guess I should have lots of room. Maybe I'll push it over 1", and if I need to I'll move more.

Hey, by the way, where did you get those valve cover decals? And have they stood up to the heat OK?

I got them from the local parts suppliers but I think they came from DC

and yeah they've survived a year no problem.

Hey Rembrant,
We put our battery behind the seat - just gave us a lot
of room for A/C etc in the engine bay. We had already
moved our gas tank out back under the bed.

Good luck up there. Your truck looks great with that red & black
2 tone.

I used the stock battery tray.
The offset was to allow me to use stock exhaust manifolds.
I modified the driver side engine mount to window through the gusset to have steering linkage pass through it.
I had about 3/4" clearance between firewall and intake.
I used a rear sump pan.
No AC

The only thing I can help you with are the pics I posted in my build thread. I mounted by engine and trans without the cab on the truck, but built a cardboard firewall template to guide me.

302 engine
AOD mechanical OD
Block huggers
Speedway engine mount system (this made the engine super easy)

Check out the thread, PM me with any questions, and I'll be happy to help if I can.
