An inch or two lower on the wheel, agreed. It took a lot more adjusting on the seats on my 17 than my 12 to get comfortable. Just took a bit longer to find the sweet spot because of the redesign.
I sit in my truck upwards of 14hrs a day on a very frequent basis and the seats in my 15 xlt were better. I find the seats in my lariat "leather" very hard, they cheaped out on foam imo and the seats bottom feels short to the point I get hamstring pain where my leg contacts the edge of the seat.
havent tried sitting in any other trim levels to see if they are better but ya the seats in this truck are one of the biggest dissapointments for me.
I have the cloth seats and they are the best I've had in the many Ford trucks I have owned.
I do recall that while test driving the Lariat trucks the leather did feel hard but I figured they would break-in and eventually conform to the driver sort if like breaking-in a new baseball glove. Did you try rubbing in some leather conditioner?
Ive heard quite a few people say the cloth seats are a lot more comfortable than the factory leather seats, I know they definitely have different padding because Katzkin says their seat covers work on the cloth seats but not for the factory leather seats (at least they did last year when I was looking into them...)
Maybe get an XLT seat off eBay/CL and install it and see how it treats you. I bet you could swap your factory leather with someone, plus some cash, buy the Katzkins and come out on top still. Not sure what else you can do really. My *** and back go numb in my Dad's Platinum F150 after a couple hours, have had zero issues in my F250 for 8+ hour trips. So something is definitely different.
Last fall I test drove three lariats and two xlt's. The Lariats were not as comfortable to me as my old '99. The XLT seats were much more comfortable to me, and eventually that's what I ordered. At 6'-2" I move the seat as high as I can and as far back as possible, still have plenty of room. By far it's the most comfortable truck I've ever owned.
I found the XLT seats felt like a super comfy couch. The KR seats are very good, moving to excellent when equipped with the active motion. (I use that every day,) I didn't like the lariat or platinum seats nearly as much.
I'm just opposite, I really like my '17 platinum seats and the KR meh ok. That was the deciding factor for me between the two trims. But I AM annoyed by the headrest being a tad too high (or, me too short) messing up my ability to wear my straw hat. Regardless, I can ride all day/night. 5'11".
OP, just an idea? You might look into trying to add some height under your butt, by adding a cushion. Something to move that hump down your back just a bit might help? Maybe you are at the limit of the seat bottom being able to raise up? Just a thought...
I'm 6'1" and feel like there's not much leg support, there's at least 5 inches from my knees to the seat. If anyone has ever driven a BMW you;ll know they have thigh support that kicks serious ***. Sure wish this truck did.
My 2013 X6 by far had the best seats in any vehicle I’ve ever owned.

I like my F350 seats so far. I only have a couple hundred miles on them so far, but already they feel more comfortable than my F150 seats. As far as my best ever ...

Did your 04 have the captains chairs? My 04 XLT had them and I think they’re pretty hard to beat. I wish they still made different seats for the truck but unfortunately the new captains chairs (if you can call them that) are just the bench seat with a console jammed in the middle. I think that’s a mistake. I miss the wrap around feel and the attached armrest. Using the console as an armrest just feels too far away. I’m 6’3” and the back contours feel pretty good to me except for the lack of padding behind my left shoulder blade.. I can see how a shorter back wouldn’t fit right.
No mine was the 60/40 split seat. And it’s funny you say lack of padding behind left shoulder blade.... mine don’t even touch the seat it feels like. Again it feels like those stadium cheap bench seats that go halfway up your back and no support for upper back.
The work grade vinyl seats in my previous 2016 Ram were the most comfortable seats I have ever sat in. Loved them!
If they were a 10, then my F350's cloth seats are a 8.5. I did a 9 hour trip (each way) last month, and I was feeling OK towards the end of the day. I'm 6'5"
Ok so went to dealer to sit in other trucks....kinda felt the same as mine. Think I’m losing my mind.
So I’m at dealer in my truck and went from seat to seat about 100 times, people thought what the hell is he doing.
But I found somthing out passenger side had headrest all the way down, driver side up 3 notches. Put drivers side all the way down and changes the way it feels to me, now feels more like passenger side...Am I losing my mind going in circles?
I had been putting lumbar all the way out now I’m trying all the way in. And moved the seat positions again. I have a 6hr drive this weekend so will see if it was all in the head rest...Am I losing my mind?
