The trick is to ADJUST the seat frequently on these long drives. If you leave it open one position, I don’t Care how good the seat is, it’s going to get uncomfortable having your body in the same position. I doubt it’s the headrest, but the lumbar definitely needs to be moved around on longer trips. 10 way adjustable seats are the best but only if you adjust. I do tend to do some longer drives but for the most part, it’s rare to do much more than 3 hours continuous driving. I am finding them better with some brake in, I am now at 25,000 miles, but I really think adjustment is the key.
I have to agree with OP, the seats in the newer Super Duty are not as nice as the older nor the competition. Other manufacturers have it all over Ford when it comes to comfort these days.
Well my F250 08 lariat seats absolutely suck. They are the worst seats of any vehicle have ever owned. I’m getting ready to buy new truck and really love ford vehicles but I am very concerned that I’m going to have the same issue again with this new super duty. I drive 4-7 hours at a time so comfortable seats are very important. Sounds like I may need to look at Ram or Dodge if a lot of people are complaining about the seat comfort. Very disappointing is these trucks are super expensive and Ford should have good seat engineers comsidering the price point of these vehicles. Over the years the internal components of the seats have been cheapened on a lot of different vehicles and seems to me Ford is one of the worst. I have a 09 VE Touareg TDI with amazing seats even after 10 years they’re still like brand new so I know it can be done. Are the Ram and GM seats any better?
Also, several people have mentioned different level seats are better of worse in the super duties. But from my research most are all the same components just some lack electric controls, extra movements and either have leather or cloth. Main differences are color and trim a leather but nothing internal. When you look at lariat, platinum, King Ranch, limited etc. it’s basically just different cosmetics. Same cusions and design etc.

if I'm not mistaken there is more than just the leather or cloth to consider. I believe king ranch and platinum offer a much higher quality leather than the lariat which is hard and very unforgiving. Coupled with thin seat padding and short seat base make it horrible. Not sure if theres any extra padding in the higher trims but the leather at the very least is softer.
Also I just drove a new 2019 Chevrolet LTZ and got to say the seats were very comfortable. The biggest difference to me is the bottom seat bolster is longer thus spreading out the weight distribution of your legs better. Then I got in a new F250 and quickly noticed the shorter and more narrow bottom cushion. I definitely like the Ford truck better overall but without a doubt the Chevrolet seats are noticeably of higher-quality and more comfortable than the Ford. It’s really a shame you can spend this much money on a truck and continue to get crappy seats from Ford. They need to fire their seat engineers and hire some new talent.
It seams like Ford either nails the seat design and yields a very good seat or they simply suck. I've owned Ford vehicles since 1996 and the seat quality and comfort has been hit or miss.
2018 lariat value package.
So when I first got my truck seat wasn’t very comfortable to me. But I thought it was because I was so used to my 04. It was an xlt plan Jane and could drive all day and have no issues, this truck few hours and I’m done. It feels like there is a roll right at mid top back (I’m 5-5) doesn’t feel like I can sink into it at all. Reminds me of sitting on a bleacher with no support for upper back because my upper back doesn’t touch seat and your bent backwards over it.
Like if you put seat all the way back to nap as wife is in store, no way feels like your laying on a log/hump and is painfull. If you go to passenger seat completely different seat put all the way back and lay back and fall asleep in the seat. It feels like I sink into it and it wraps around me. Yes I have put the lumbar all the way to zero.
I have read all about complaints on the seats and yet to hear this one. My wife things I’m nuts but I’m not and know everyone feels different in them. And know when I take it in to complain they will say it’s normal no issue. Has any one flipped seats from one side to other? It looks like it can be done to me but some work.
I dont even like driving it now (5000 miles) I usually drive the fiesta now because it’s so much more comfortable and it’s a plain Jane one.
Any suggestions, ideas, anybody run into this themselves?
so does the value package in the lariat offered air-conditioned seats ? The reason I ask is I sat in the lariat without the air-conditioned seats and another with air-conditioning seats and to me the leather and padding felt slightly different. The seats that were air-conditioning seemed more comfortable to me for some reason. Thoughts on this?

So an update.
After moving the headrest all the way down and letting all the air out of lumbar support it seams to be much better. I think I’ve gone so many directions I think I was lost. Just moving headrest made it feel like the passenger side now. On my long drive weekend trip didn’t bother me at all and that’s a first.

i test drove a ‘18 Denali HD and hated the seats, I find GM’s to be too firm. My ‘12 f150 Platinum seats are perfect and can drive all day no issues.
The driver seat on my 2018 XLT gave me terrible lower back pain for the first six weeks of ownership. Once I fully disengaged the lumbar support my back felt a lot better. I now enjoy driving this truck.
