I bought a **** 33000 12" rear view mirror as a replacement for my 2018 F-150. It was advertised at 12" but measured only 11.25" outside to outside, so it added very little - the stock mirror is 10". I would like a 3" x 14" (or thereabouts) non-convex day/night mirror for the truck that replaces what I have. There are plenty of oversized mirrors on the market, but they clip onto the existing mirror and are not day/night. So they work OK in the day time, but at night you get the full glare from lights behind you. I would even consider a convex mirror if it was very gently curved so that the distortion is minimized. Appreciate any suggestions. Perhaps there's a truck parts company that carries all kinds of mirrors?
How much are you trying to see in the back seat? I am not aware of any mirrors that are not clip on. Rearview mirrors are useless IMHO. Larger side mirrors are far more beneficial.
I don't see how that would be beneficial since it's the bed you'd wind up looking at with a bigger mirror. I use it to look for cars going really fast behind me before using my side mirrors to change lanes. Out in the desert, there are cars going over 100 mph.
Thanks for the link. I did look at that long skinny mirror, but could do with a shorter one that was an inch or two more top to bottom. Not sure if I explained it very well, but I have a regular cab truck, so the rear window is much closer to the mirror than a club cab. Perhaps in a club cab the whole rear view window could be seen in the mirror, and of course anything larger would be a waste. But my mirror only shows the middle of the rear window. To see the edges of the rear window I have to bob my head around. It really is a safety issue. With a larger mirror I could see the blind spots much better.
It's a driver issue not a safety issue. Rearview mirrors are considered non essential and are not required under DOT. I can surely tell you my service truck and my Pete don't have mirrors and you can drive just fine.
When I drove regular cab trucks, I would remove the windshield mounted rear view mirror. The door mirrors were more than adequate. And when there were 3 people in the cab the interior mirror became a nuisance.
Texas requires review mirrors you must have on on the drivers side, However the only time a center mount is required is if you do not hqave a right hand mirror. The center mirror can be removed if you have one on the passenger side.
Thanks to all who have weighed in with suggestions. I ordered both a Broadway 850 (flat) and a BW 851 (convex). Both are 15.7" x 3.2" mirrors. I figured I'd try both of them and send the one I didn't like back. I didn't expect to like the convex mirror better, but I do. The flat mirror did not allow me to see the edges of the rear window. The convex one does with a little to spare. The thing about the convex mirror is that it is mildly convex, so there is very little distortion of the cars behind you. Yes, they appear a little smaller, but not much. I've read about other people having trouble with the mirror vibrating but mine is perfectly steady. The drawbacks? If someone is in the center seat your view will be restricted, but it would be anyway in the factory standard mirror. It is not a day/night mirror so there could be glare at night, but I rarely drive at night anyway. The sun shade on the right side cannot go all the way down without hitting the mirror. Not an issue on the left side, since the left side of the mirror is much closer to the windshield. To sum up, the BW 851 is (almost) perfect for my F-150 standard cab.
