I have two np435's. Trans A needs a rebuild and has the input shaft for the 300. Trans B appears to be in good shape and has the larger FE input shaft. Can the input shaft of A be put on B?
I can investigate as I have one of each trans out of the truck if need be.
I don't know the exact years they came out of but the FE was mid 70s or so and the small block 80-86. I can try to identify them better tonight if the year can be determined that way as well.
Tried to grab she pictures this morning. Note the difference in bellhousings and the slight difference on the input shafts. I'll try and put a 300 clutch disc over it tonight and see of they are indeed different or not, but they are visually different when comparing the two side by side.
You want to measure between the two:
The spline count, try the clutch disc on both.
The spline is the same distance from trany face out.
The pilot bearing area is the same on both and same dia.
The front bearing retainer or throw out bearing sleeve is the same dia. and how long each one is.
I cant see them making different in put shafts for different size motors within the same manf.
Now if 1 trany was a Ford and the other a Dodge then I can see the in put shafts being different.
Bell housings should just unbolt.
BTW check if the trany to bell bolts are the same distance on both.
