Thanks to all for the advice. Have parts on order. Oil change, coolant flush, and pump removal this weekend.

I'm doing a radiator flush tomorrow. I tried to loosen the driver side block plug without any luck to get it to break fee. If I can't get this removed, will back flushing get all of the old antifreeze out?

Mine too was seized. Pull the block heater element.

What pump did you get? Water pump will be my next purchase unless something breaks.

I bought an Alliant, it was Hecho en Cheena.

If I had known it was Chinese, I would have just bought one from Autozone for a lifetime warranty and purchased an OEM Motorcraft gasket. All the pumps probably come from the same factory anyway.

I bought the Navistar one that Riffraff had. I went with it over the Alliant one due to to saving a few bucks. I've had some home repairs that weren't planned. Hopefully it will do well.

Back flushed the system today. Thought it would take forever to see clear water. I suppose I have a lot scale that keeps breaking off. My last flush with distilled water, before I backed all the way into the garage dumped it out just outside. the water at the end that came out was dirty like I never did anything.

Got the pump off as well. Pain the get the fan off. The tool I rented had seen its better day so it was difficult to keep the fan steady the break the nut lose.

PO had used some orange gasket with the pump gasket. Not sure how the pump gasket even seals when you can run your finger across it, the seal feels flush with either side.

Question. When I put the distilled water in I could only get in 6 gallons not 8. Is this due to a Air pocket?

Pump is in the mail. Should get here Tuesday night.

I filled with antifreeze first and added in water after since I could not get all the fluid out either

mine burped the air fast on level ground with idle unlike my moms old van that has to be put at a 20 degree angle

I figured there is residual water in the engine since I can only get the heater element out.

It took me many, many gallons to flush that green **** out to the point I had just clear water in the system. Probably went through 12-15 gallons of distilled.

Initially I just used the old garden manguera for the first flush of the block, heater core, radiator, etc. Do a heater core if you just bought the truck, no better time than now. Replace any and all hoses. They are quite cheap all things considered. Same with installing that heater valve to cut coolant flow to the core when on Max A/C. I posted the part number in my build thread, but I will look up for you if you need it.

I went with Fleet Charge per the recommendation of the board. Works fine for me! Also, my filter setup is from Dieselsite. Fits well for me.
