05 6.0 Black smoke when towing.

I recently noticed when towing my trailer wit my 05 6.0, when I step on accelerator I get a burst of black smoke for a few seconds then it clears. I had all new injectors, egr cooler and oil cooler installed a year or so ago. At the time I also had the egr valve replaced and intake cleaned. I have a newer FICM from Ed with Atlas 40 tune. I've never noticed smoke before when getting on accelerator. Is this the norm or should I be worried about something. Thanks

It’s normal to have a touch of black smoke at the onset of accelerating, (especially with a load) as the turbo spools up.

Sounds like you are out having fun!

Thanks for the business!!

I am getting the black smoke again when I get on the throttle and, when not towing. What else could it be? I also was wondering about the Atlas tune and the Wright of my trailer I pull is 8600 pounds. I am not set up to monitor exhaust temps. Is this a problem or cause? Thanks

As stated.......a little smoke on start of acceleration is normal......the turbo just hasn't spooled up yet. As the weather gets warmer you'll notice slightly more smoke as well......as long as smoke clears fairly quickly it's all good.
Side note......since black smoke is initially a lack of air ......how old/dirty is your air filter?

The air filter is brand new. When you get on the throttle it blows black smoke and usually clears in a few seconds. I've never had the smoke thing before.
