I was on jalopy J reading about the foot starter. It seems old Chevs have them but few other cars/trucks. One guy had a clutch pedal based one. I presume you would have to depress the pedal ALL the way for it to work. That way it would not engage while shifting.
Anyone know the history of these?
I've had several old Chevy's with the foot starter. My first car had one actually. Never heard of one incorporated into the clutch pedal though...custom maybe? I have my unused clutch pedal set up as a switch for the backup light.
dad would tell us when he hauled pulp , he had a 6cly chevy. and on some hills he would press the starter button while the gas pedal was to the floor. he said it would give the little kick the was needed to make the hill. or he would back down the hill to unload some logs and try again.
Chrysler products had a foot starter as well. I had a 40 and a 41 Plymouth pickup, and both had floor mounted starter switches.
I seem to recall that early on Ford did make mention of having dash mounted starter buttons as a convenience feature.
