Is there a difference between the glow plug relay and the starter relay? I don't think my glow plugs are coming on my truck cranks longer than before to start. I'm not sure , it is not smoking at startup but the glow plug relays are over 50.00
Thanks, that is a good write up. I will start testing tonight. the batteries have sat for months and drained all the way down a few times. they are a year old. Because of the disassembly i have done and recoating everything metal I'm not 100% sure if I wired everything correctly and or did I missed a ground somewhere. The GPR looks original to the truck. rusty LOL.
I did that Stancor one. The one I pulled off mine when I was going through the GP system was very old and corroded. I cannot tell the difference from a good quality Motorcraft one versus the Stancor, but seems like lots of people do this mod.
I do remember a flux in power when it started like they were cycling. It may be fine It just seems like it cranks over longer now. My Chevy blazer diesel starts up instantly and it is an 86
If you ask for it by part number it is much cheaper. Or order online and pickup in store.
You can kinda tell if your plugs are working by the voltmeter. If it draws way down for a couple minutes after you turn on the key.
i never had one of them last more than a year or so. it is much better spending the $55 and getting the stancor, and never having to worry about it again. Monster White-Rodgers Glow Plug Relay
You can pump out the glow plugs to check their condition. If you do need a GPR I would suggest the Stancor. About 10 years on mine. I feel like it helps the glow plugs. I am sure it provides less less resistance when under heavy load
