Thanks, I bought a Motorcraft replacement. How do they hold up? I think I paid about $50 for it.
I was thinking about buying a NAPA relay for a spare but NAPA stores are rare around here. It's warm enough here that the glow plugs are really just an automatic battery load test feature anyway.
motorcraft GPR is like the napa relay. it may last 3 years, or it may last 3 months.
that is why we just go with the stancor relay.
same price, and you never have to worry about it again.
Well, I will pick up a extra one for "just in case" but it seems like everything is working fine. Perhaps the batteries were just not up to snuff and cranked too slow. I'm at a loss.
Hard to measure the resistance on the relay, but a simple test-light check when you turn the key on will tell you if it's working at all - should have power at 1 big lug normally, both lugs when the wait to start light is on - and for some time after. If in doubt (or a pinch), you can jump it with your battery cables, or go from the plug-side straight to the battery for a minute or so. Drove mine like that for a month once, don't really recommend it.
Glow plugs relays are tested when operating with a voltage drop test. That is the only accurate method to check load carrying capability.
I'll stand behind the stancor as the bar set . Mine has been on my truck for at least 10 years.y buddy that I bought it from installed it and it's been wonderful.
No need to reinvent the wheel when you have something that works awesome.
