When I shut my truck down Saturday evening after a short run, everything was fine. Started it this morning and was greeting with all kind of chimes and this:
The engine seemed sluggish, and the transmission seemed a little "confused," and the turn signal clicker was very slow. (I didn’t notice what the turn signals were doing) Battery voltage was 14.4V running and 13v shut down, even though the battery indicator was lit with the engine running. After starting and shutting it down 3-4 times while checking things out, all of the indicators went out, except for the CEL, the navigation started working, and the engine seemed normal, although I haven’t driven it yet.
Is is this something that needs a dealer trip, or could I reset the CEL, and see if it happens again?
I don’t want to waste the time, and possibly the money - if it’s not broke, there might be a service/inspection fee. From what I’ve found by searching this usually is a glitch, but all the trucks involved were older, and most were tuned. I wondered if someone might be aware of something on the 17+’s. Seems like many times with newer devices with all their electronics, a reset or power cycle is all that’s required.
The "wrench" light is for a non-emissions problem. Usually something gone wrong in the powertrain. This really is a dealer service department problem. If it happened once, it will happen again. As long as you didn't clear the codes, they'll be in the history of the PCM and that will show you did have a problem and give the techs something to start with. It could be a bad ground or a charging system problem. You won't know until someone can start the diagnostics process. You aren't going to be charged a fee.
