lots of smoke, how to know if its intercooler, egr, dpf or bad turbo seals?

hello all, i recently got an f-550 from an auction, the truck has 128k miles on it and all maintenance was done by the dealer and reported on the history report (all stock no modifications).

after driving the car it felt like the engine had small missfire (small vibration) and then driving short distance the truck lost all power , i towed it back to my shop and checked it, it didnt overheat but the cooland was gone, after checking the dpf and the cat where clogged, i cleaned the DPF and drilled a little whole through the cat to test the truck (dont want to replace it before knowing whats causing the problem), but anyway the truck seems to run fine now but its blowing tons of smoke (blueish at first and then darker).

i tried to do some research online to see what could cause that, and based on everything i read it seems like the most likely causes are either the intercooler, the egr or bad turbo seals (there was also mentions of a cracked dpf causing similar issues), my questions is if there is a way i can test for whats causing it without playing a guessing games and just throwing parts, none of the information i read mentions how to test for these issues.

also there is only 1 code that comes up when scanning the car which is p0336 for crankshaft sensor but i dont think that would cause the smoke (plan on replacing the sensor and testing it)

Thanks in advance

so it sounds like you have a deisel (you mention DPF)

sources of smoke

coolant
a.) coolant consumption into combustion chamber
b) coolant consumption into intake system
c) coolant consumption coming from leaks in gasket or cracks in heads

fuel
d) injector stuck open
e) poor injector timing due to bent push rods or worn rocker tips

oil
f) oil consumption due to work rings

please tell me this is not a 6.4

A lazy CPS or a non oem CPS could very well cause what you describe. Interested after you get an OEM sensor installed. OEM in caps!
