Seems to me that every time I've gone to the dealer to buy lubes. It's no longer this! It's this.

Every time, my old was superceeded. So I come home and do research. Each time it has been discontinued and no longer stocked. New part number, new blend.

I would go with the LV.

If you can find a hundred barrels of Merc SP trans fluid. Your Donald trump. 70 mile radius, 6 dealers. Nope, not a quart!

Denny

BTW, when they hand it over the counter, just don't rush out. Print a copy of the properties of the 12 and compare them to the label on the LV.

Then either make your choice or detect some 12 if anyone has some left.

Kinda like Mark Kovalsky's sign off...(retired ford trans engineer who enlightens us when he's sober)......(love ya Mark)....They don't make Mercon 5 anymore, just get over it.

On a side note: Mercon v was the dogs nuts in it's day. But the newer blends are matched to the specs of the units and are upgraded to achieve optimal reliability regardless of the age of the vehicle. In essence, we've been a labs Guinea pig as a whole and they're honing in on why a trans would have failed from grampa days.

Part of the fun of owning a superduty....you don’t know which cylinder the bullet is in when you spin the barrel.

I would never use LV as that is thinner than SP.

on one hand I’m told the case will run with baby oil in it on the other hand I’m told if you don’t use fords flavor of the month the case will explode.

fords flavor of the month varies depending on with who they renew their supply contracts. Who ever wins the bid becomes the golden fluid that you must use or you will become a ford⛳️..found on the side of the road dead....Ford.

i think the last time I changed the fluid I bough “transfer case fluid” plain vanilla with no fairy dust.

no leaks, no noise, didn’t blow up yet.

I needed to move the truck around my yard so I put in "fairy dust oil" in the meantime till this is figured out, what I put in is Valvoline Max Life Dex/Merc multi vehicle oil and on the label ity says it's a replacement for the Ford Mercon, Mercon V, Mercon SP, and Mercon LV, so maybe there such a thing as fairy dust, LOL, I will check with another dealer after the weekend to try to sort this crazy situation.
