So far I like it. It definitely makes the truck drive a little more aggressive. I will say it was premature and really didn't add any noticeable horsepower because the exhaust and heads aren't flowing that much. But down the road when I port the heads and get regrinds this will be a great upgrade.
This is very intresting but the custom TB looks bigger than the opening where the upper plenum bolts to the intake manifold.
That restriction is by far more of a issue I think. I would love a larger TB for my supercharged motor as that helps with boost to push thru the intake restriction. But on a NA motor, I don't know......maybe it helps.
It is bigger. Anything over 60mm and the bores become bigger then the elbow so it requires grinding to get the FULL flow of it which I plan on doing. But you're right on an N/A engine it doesn't help until you address other issues like heads and cams and exhaust manifolds. Also where are you guys getting these SCs!!!! I need one!!!
I spent 2 years looking and redesigning the poor kenne bell V10 system.
when I found the "kit" it was only 70% complete. 50% if you consider the "kit" needed more parts to make it actually function well. Like injectors, fuel pump, water meth, intake air sensor, and larger MAF.
I'm tinkering with a turbo set up now for my other excursion. If it works well the KB on my 1st excursion will be for sale.
FYI the supercharger install without a kit would not be too difficult.
1) buy a supercharger KB, whipple what ever
2) fabricate the intake adapter, it would be exponentially easy for someone who could fabricate a TB like you.
3) fabricate a pully adapter for alternator, again a menial task for someone like you.
4) fabricate a idler pull block, again kids work as its just a block of aluminum with some holes drilled in it.
I have the parts on my excursion if you need dimensions and photos.
Well if this turbo setup works out which i hope it does cause that would be bada$$ i would love to get that SC off you since id like to put this truck past 600whp on a forged bottom end. As far as the throttle body is concerned you can buy a 62mm or 65mm from 5star that's basically what i made i was just too cheap to pay for one! :-missing
Also a side question. How loud does that SC whine at WOT? I absolutely love the sound of those things ripping by but never heard one in person on the V10.
I geared the SC for 12 psi boost, and have to say it's quiet when bypass is open. When you get on it you can hear the supercharger but mine is somewhat muffled due to still having hood insulation. It whistles very distenctly. Maybe if you were outside when I went by it could be heard but I don't know.
My stock exhaust seems quieter on my SC'ed excursion than my two NA excursions.
These supercharger setups are not cheap.....expecially one that is 100% functional and has all its parts.
I have had lots of intrest from guys wanting my SC. I even considered selling it to fund my turbo project. But no one is willing to pay me what it's worth...let alone what I have in it. I cannot part with it for less than I have in it, so I keep it and keep smiling.
Well at some point id like to look at the kit and see exactly how its setup and what to make....But first comes a forged bottom end and headwork with cams.
That's an Excellent question that i have no answer to. But i will look into it further and see what might need to be changed and also the difference in weight.
Forged rods could very well be lighter then the PM rods and the pistons will probably be very close so we shall see.....It also brings to question RPM cause id love to spin the engine up to 6200RPM.
