Refinish a FORD cap
tinted sliding side windows and an inside light.
HOWEVER,
the fiberglass is real rough from sitting outside here in Wisconsin.
Questions: What do I use to glue an open seam in the top? (approx. 2' long)
Should I sand it and what grade of sand paper?
What type / brand of primer & paint is best?
What what shade of white paint?
I'm depending on your expert advice.
I would find the closest boat repair shop and ask them about how to sand and prime the topper. There is probably a fiberglass boat repair forum on the internet.
My wife and I discussed the situation. We like the clear windows and the smooth cream-
colored finish on our FORD built cap. The green tinted sliding windows on the Deluxe cap
are nice, but not needed. Therefore, if the back window frame is interchangeable with
ours, I will swap the frames, remove and save the Deluxe cap windows & light, and cut it up for scrap. I will measure and double check to insure that the back window frames
are interchangeable. I am open for more suggestions.
Use the advanced search option...makes life way easier.
Uhm...I usually go up to Door county every year...I'll take it if your just gonna cut it up. Mine has cracks that have proven to be a challenge to stop them from coming back.
I will connect you with the Ford guy in Wind Lake Wi.
I'm buying his back window, frame & light. I will leave the cap.
You can dicker with him for the cap. I will assume that your
back window & frame are ok.
