Headers

I got a 49 F1 with a 350SBC on a TH400 auto The truck has a Plymouth volare front clip and a Ididit adjustable column. The problem i got is the very tight space between the block and the steering shaft. on the left side.I got a set of ram horns with 2'5inch collectors and when under torque with the steering to the right the flanges on the collector catch on the UJ joint of the steering shaft. I have tried SBC tight hugger headers and they dont fit, The only thing I know fit for sure are ram horns with 2" collectors but these strangle the motor. What are people using with this set up. ??? Thanks

What type of Engine Mount are you running? Going to a solid motor mounts would stop any type of motor movement and should solve your torque lean. Or install a turnbuckle between motor and frame to stop the flex too. Other than that doing away with the flange and welding a 2.5 stainless pipe to the manifold, but with your torque lean I dont know how long that would last.

is your engine offset toward the passenger side at all?? that's about the only way to cure it... it's a bunch of work now to move the engine and transmission, but it will get you around that big ole honkin steering box
with a 460/volare set up in a 53 I had to offset 2" with a set of Sanderson headers... then I had problems with the right side control arms... scrapped it all and went Mustang II
