1986 Lariat F-250 Has Found the Fountain of Youth

1986 Lariat F-250 Has Found the Fountain of Youth
By Brett Foote

Most 30-year-old Ford trucks have been used, and they show it. But this gorgeous F-250 is about as factory fresh as they get.

It's a sweet truck but the front looks different than the back

That stripe not following a body line and the blue not going all the way back throws it all off.
Then again it not mine to do the paint "my" way.

That's a bondo paint job, not factory paint, or configuration..
Could be very nice,... could be a pig with lipstick.....

wish I could find that light blue/dark blue pinstriping for my truck. But at least I can save some pics of it so when I have my truck painted I have something to show the paint shop the color the pinstriping needs to be painted.

lol well once I move my truck will be parked on 4 acres. But I got to get it how I want it. That includes with the pinstriping which is just like this truck color wise. Just mine is a nicer looking two tone than that.

That stripe may not be DB/LB. All that would have to be done is run the LB say 1/4" inside on the DB paint to get that look.

I can tell you 4 acres is a lot of work if you need to mow it each week.
3 hours on my tractor with a 60" deck and only a few trees to cut around. Some times I only cut the grass in front & some in back of the house and to my garage leaving the rest behind the house and field for a week or two.

Yep, what I was thinking about was telling the paint and body shop to do like the factory did spray the whole truck argent silver then mask off the two tone area then spray the dark metallic blue. Same could be done with the pinstriping, mask where the pinstriping goes spray it light blue then come back and run a thin strip of tape down the middle to mask the light blue then spray a medium/dark blue then will have the same effect. Would be costly but I got the part numbers for the pinstripe set for my truck and I haven't got a notification on ebay in 4 years on anyone listing those part numbers online. I think my only option would be to just have it painted on in the end and clear coated over the top which I personally would prefer.

Yep it is, go every Saturday during the growing season and start shreading with the tractor around 9am and finish around 1pm and that is if I am able to run the tractor in 7th gear. If the grass is a bit tall then I have to run in 3rd gear to prevent bog down and that adds about 2 hours to the overall time. Due to lack of rain hasn't really grown much this year unlike last year so been doing the shreading every two to three weeks.

You probably don't want NOS stripe kits, anyway, they've been rolled up in boxes for decades and are most likely gonna crack into pieces when unrolled/laid flat.

I rather like that overall look, but that's an extended cab and so you can do that with colors (not go all the way back) and make it have an effect. To me, it's more "modern" looking than some of the stock 1980s paint schemes but mine is gonna be something of a work truck and I don't want to put too much effort into something that's gonna be beaten on.

I agree, but I figured I could ship them off to a pinstriping company I found a few that sells reproduction pinstripes, I contacted a few they were more than willing to make new ones from a old set if I had it. I thought of buying the old set so they could produce me a brand new set using the original set as a pattern.

As of now I rely on the body shop when they strip the truck down to take and get the pinstriping in the right positioning through painting. Going to be a chore once its all removed like I want them to do. They don't have to go down to bare metal but I do want them to remove the stripes so there is no bumps in the paint.

Painting the light blue is a lot of work.
He could paint the dark blue, bottom & hood / door.
Tape off and paint the white. Once done use the Cal-Custom tape stripe in the light blue and follow the tape off line.
