So, Lately I've been having issues with my stock starter, about half the time I go to start the truck it just spins and doesn't grab anything. I replaced the starter and looked at the flywheel and everything looked fine, no broken teeth. After taking out the OEM starter I looked at the gear and it's pretty worn down. This could be normal wear on a 13 Year old starter but I'm not sure. The new starter worked perfectly for about 3 days and now it's making the same issue? The only thing I can guess is shimming and that's a Chevy thing. Any help here? (Attached is a picture of the flywheel. This looks fine right? The teeth on my old starter were chewed up so I'm afraid to start the vehicle and chew up the new one too. (Forgot to list vehicle: 2004 Lincoln Navigator)
The flywheel doesn't look bad if that's the worst of it.
Have you spun the flywheel all the way around to see if other parts are more or less damaged?
Are you using a new or rebuilt starter?
Have you tried returning the starter for a different brand?

I've spun the flywheel all the way around and it pretty much all looks thew same as shown. The starter is brand new but I'm gonna admit it was a cheap one, But I could buy 3 of these for the price of an auto zone starter. I don't think it's the starter because my OEM starter had the exact same issue, same sounds and everything. It's like my flywheel is just eating up the gear on the starter, Or so I think? I was asking one of my friends about it, and I was thinking this might be electrical. I do have a sound system that has caused some issues in the past but nothing this bad.
