Got my new tank. Is there any kind of a special fitting that goes in the hole in the back or just a brass fitting? Should I degrease, prep and POR15 the hole tank or leave as is?
Nice! Usually fuel tanks are either galvanized or aluminized to prevent rust but you can paint it if you want to, although it's unnecessary. No "air inlet", use a vented gas cap. The 1/4" NPT threaded hole is presumably where your fuel line connects.
Wait! That threaded hole seems too far up, and up against one of the support brackets. Is there another threaded hole on the bottom or sides near the bottom?

This is the same position as the fuel line on my F350, There is just enough room to fit the fittings between the tank and frame rail.

I am looking at parts for my gas tank and I see fittings for rollover vents, what are these? Do we need them?
Mixer, yes I was the thinking the hole for the gas line is really in a confined space so close to the frame. I am in the process of making some new brackets for running board support and to hold gastank. A New pair will cost 250 shipped. I am hoping I can come up with something on my own. There is a drain plug in the tank. Maybe I should plug the small hole and use the drain hole for the gas line.

Look inside the tank first to determine if there is a standpipe (pickup tube) attached to the upper hole extending to about one inch from the bottom. If there is not, then it is meant for venting or fuel return purposes. The "drain hole" in the bottom of the tank is most likely used for fuel suction then, and it should be set in a raised indentation in the tank. If there is no raised indentation, then I would make a standpipe about one inch long and incorporate it into a 90 degree street elbow and valve
Gas tank ready to go on. Waiting on the metal hold down straps, filler neck, and cap. Since I am a firefighter and have the availability, I am using fire hose to cushion metal to metal.
That's purty. I would use the rubber side of the hose against the tank. Having been a marine first responder for years I'm familiar with the many uses of out of date fire hose. Makes great chafing gear.
Yes. That is the plan. It is great stuff. It has many uses. Being that I am the guy that does thousands of feet of hose testing each year, I have quite a bit of the stuff. It is a double jacketed hose. I took the outer cloth jacket off. The inner rubber jacket works great. I have used it on all my tractors I have refurbed.. Basically anywhere metal touches metal. It makes a great grippy base on the truck bed extender. I also used it as a hinge in my 4 2'x4' windows in my tree stand. It does not make any noise when opening to take the big shot.
