'78 into '73 engine swap tower compatibility
A couple weeks ago I picked up a '78 cab and chassis with a Midas RV shell just for the engine and xmission.
Plan is to swap the 460 engine and C6 from the '78 into the '73 which has a 360 with a C6.
2WD both.
The question that came up last night was differing frame widths and how that may affect compatibility when looking at the towers and mounts.
I haven't measured the frame widths yet to see if there's a difference, wondering if anyone here has done this swap and if there IS a difference, how you overcame it?
I'm under the impression that the towers in the '73 for the 360 are different than the towers that would've been used if the truck came with a 460 originally.
Is this something I should be concerned about, and if so, where could I find the correct towers and mounts for my year and frame width combination so I can move this 460 over?
I'm not so good at putting into words what my questions are, so if you have any questions of your own that would help clarify what I'm looking to do here please ask away and I'll answer the best I can!
A member here and I will be pulling the swap as soon as possible because the 360 is giving out on me and I need the truck up and running with minimal down-time so I'd like to have all these details worked out and ready for as snag-free a swap as possible.
Thanks fellas
D3TZ-6028-A Right & D3TZ-6029-A Left .. Engine Supports aka towers/stands/perches / Obsolete
D3TZ-6030-A Right & D3TZ-6031-A Left .. Engine Brackets, these bolt to the block, the rubber insulators bolt to these, then to the supports / Obsolete
2) D3TZ-6038-A .. Rubber Insulators / Obsolete
The rubber insulators can be bought from auto parts stores, the supports and the brackets from wherever they can be found. Passenger Car/Econoline 460 parts will NOT work!
The C6 used with the FE engine cannot be used with the 460.
The '78 is an E series so I guess when I said "cab and chassis" I should've said "cutaway". Sorry about that.
The concern that I have is IF the frames do end up being different widths then the supports (towers, stands, perches thanks ND) that come with the 460 will have the wrong geometry to match my frame width.
Thanks for that ebay link, 'DB. I'll try to get a quick look at the '78 tomorrow and see if they look like the ones in that listing. I'm thinking 200 bucks is out of line with what I'd want to spend, but if I need 'em and don't have another line on 'em then that's the route I'll have to end up going.
'Falcoon, are you saying the xmission mount alone or the whole crossmember?
Thanks again guys, appreciate y'all.

With the 460 being from an E series it probably has a rear sump oil pan,
where the pickup has a front sump, might be some clearance issues.

I'm again looking for a set of perches to put this 460 into my 2WD F250 which currently has the 360. So much time has passed that ebay link in post 4 is gone so I can't even copy and paste the wording to find what I'm looking for, lol
I've tried searching a few different ways and come up empty-handed.
Anyone here have a link, or a line on some, or even a set to sell?

Maybe someone with more knowledge can tell us if they are the right ones or not. I think they are but I run an FE in mine.
