Flywheel help
VIN: N80JVDH0992
I use it primarily around my ranch and on occasion I will make a run to the local quarry for 8 or 9 tons of pit run or road base. In a busy year I might put 1,000 miles on it (500 empty, 500 loaded). Last week I was making a quarry run and the clutch cooked off. Luckily it gave up the ghost in front of my barn with 9 ton of base in the box and not on the surface street! So, I pulled the clutch (2 discs) and the flywheel. The flywheel has a pretty good case of varicose veins. My machine shop will turn it, but are not thrilled with the idea. Neither am I, but I can't find a replacement? I've "googled" to death trying to locate one. There are two casting numbers on it EDM 6380 (might have a faint S at the end of the numbers) and 219-K. Anyone have a source suggestion for flywheels? This is a 13" or 330mm double disc clutch pack, 10 tooth 1 1/2" spline and 1.48" stand off. Other than the flywheel she's a solid old girl. I hate to slide the old flywheel back in but I'm running out of options...and yes, I've heard the horror stories.
Thanks for any help you can herd this way to an old cowboy!

Vaya Con Dios Amigo!
While there were cattle in the Tombstone area (many rustled from Mexico), this was a silver mining town.
Thanks again for all your GREAT help! I called Marty and he is searching for a flywheel!

Of course, I would never claim to be a mechanic. I'm just an old rancher with a lot of equipment that needs constant fixin and too cheap to hire a real "nutcracker!" I'm a graduate of the Bailing Wire School of Equipment repair!...and I am "outstanding in my field!"....or driving in my field, depending on the chore of the moment. In fact, if ya wanted to get technical, Bill has a point. I ain't a COW BOY neither. I only have steers, no cows, and boyhood is so far back in my rear view mirror that I need GPS to remember any part of it!

When Virgil Earp was city marshal of Tombstone (after Fred White was killed), he got an ordinance passed that said guns could not be carried in town.
This ordinance stood for about 100 years. When a pal and I first visited Tombstone in 1974, we planned to go "heeled," but had to leave our SAA's in the car.
The ordinance was finally repealed when the local 'gunslingers' wanted to stage shootouts of the October 1881 gunfight.
....but I was sure tempted to apply for the job! The wife and I later bought a ranch in Colorado (we needed to see trees!) just outside of the town of Creede. I had learned about Creede from John Wayne's last movie, so I had to see it! Beautiful country....but a little too remote. Of course Creede was another infamous mining town and where Bob Ford met his demise. Wyatt, Bat and Doc had also been in Creede for short periods. After Creede, we moved to North Idaho and bought another couple of ranches, one near the Selkirk river where Lewis and Clark had crossed the Bitteroots. We sold that ranch and bought our current ranch in the same North Idaho county where Wyatt had been a deputy for a short time, after he left Tombstone. We love Idaho! This is "Constitutional Carry" country! I have two suppressed rifles, among my arsenal, that I hunt my ranch with. We have moose, elk, whitetail, grizzlies, black bears, mountain lions, coyotes and an occasional wolf come through or live on the ranch. Sounds like our western interests are similar. I'm a Life member of the NRA and SASS....I do love the Colt SAA's!

The Acme Saloon in El Paso referenced in the film (as in Carson City) and the book was real, John Wesley Hardin was killed there.
Hardin was standing at the bar, John Selman walked in, shot him in the back. He 'beat the rap' because he claimed that Hardin would have seen him coming in the back bar mirror.
Several years before he died, actor Harry Carey Jr. said that Wayne should have also won Oscars for Sands of Iwo Jima and The Shootist.
I shot End of Trail in 1985/86, when it was held at Coto de Caza (north Orange County).
Back then, SASS was just being formed, so if I had joined, probably would have received a very low 2 digit membership number.
One of the founders of SASS was Boyd Davis who owned EMF (Early & Modern Firearms), these were p!ss poor repro's made in Italy.
I told Boyd that was an apropos name, as there was a Studebaker called the EMF.
It was a POS that owners called Every Mechanical Fault, Every Mechanics Friend, Every Morning Fixum. Boyd wasn't pleased.
Boyd walked up to me at the shotgun stage, said you're really stupid, that's a rifle you have your mitts on. Uh huh...
I said...Boyd, this is Winchester model 1887 12 gauge lever action shotgun w/a special order 36" barrel made in 1888. Boyd said I've never seen one...I said, well you have now.
I got 'ol Boyd's goat again when at dinner, he began telling the story of the Lincoln County War. On and on he went
making one mistake after the other. After he finished, I said...Boyd you just described the Johnson County War (ranchers vs cow-boys) that took place in WY. The Lincoln County War took place in NM and Billy the Kid was involved.

I exchanged a couple of emails with Harry Carey Jr. a couple of years before he died. He had moved from Durango, Colorado to the Santa Barbara area. When we lived outside Creede we use to go to Durango often and stay at the Strater Hotel. Several times we stayed in the room Louis L' Amour use to stay in when he wrote. The room is above the bar and I understand can be quite noisy on the weekends. We always stayed on a weekday, usually in winter and were never disturbed by bar noise. I had picked up Careys book "In the Company of Hero's", in Durango and really enjoyed the read. He graciously offered to autograph the book for me if I would pay the postage. Naturally I did! He wrote a nice little note to me and signed it. It doesn't mean much to most folks unless they are true western fans.
I only have 3 Winchesters.....A 1886 in 45/70, octagon circa 1901, a 94 saddle ring in .25-.35, circa 1906 and a John Wayne Commemorative 100 year birth anniversary that I will never shoot. I shoot the 86 and 94 pretty regular around the ranch. I used the 94 just the other day to pop a coyote near my barn. Funny thing is, I've been having a lot of coyote problems lately so I decided to keep one of my AR's in the barn. I'm always heeled on the ranch usually with one of my 1911's, but sometimes I just tuck a Kimber .380 into my pocket and head out. So in the last week I have missed 3 coyotes I shot at with the AR and one I shot at with my .380 (course it was about 150 yards away!) My wife started giving me "the look" and asked me if my vision was OK? Well that was it for me! So the next day I pulled the .25-.35 out of the safe and headed out to the north pasture. Sure enough, there was a coyote near the corral, about 100 yards away from me. I threw that ol' Winchester to my shoulder and braced myself against a fence post and popped that coyote right through the melon! Nothing like an old Winchester with iron sights to get the job done!
Both were purchased at the Autry Museum located across from the L/A Zoo.
I have several '86's rifles in .45-90, '94 carbines and rifles in every caliber originally offered and enough '95's to outfit the Arizona Rangers several times over.
The Autry Museum is excellent! I took the family there in 1989 on our way to Disney. Our kids, who were 9 and 10, really enjoyed themselves. Our daughter enjoyed herself so much that when we got to the stagecoach display, complete with horses, she decided to pet the horses. My wife, son and I, had turned to go on and didn't see her try to pet the horses...but, the museum security sure did! She set off the audible motion alarms....which caused security to quickly, but politely, respond! We still tease her about that moment 30 years ago!
I also really enjoy the Buffalo Bill Museum...I'm guessing that with the number of Winchesters you have, you not only have visited the BB museum, but have a healthy stack of Winchester letters from them as well
The National Cowboy Museum in OK City is another excellent visit!
I'm envious of your Winchester collection!
Thanks again for the flywheel lead!...Marty found one for me (nice guy!) and is shipping it next week. I'm especially excited since given the cost of it, it's got to be the ultimate gold plated version!....
