So I was getting around to finally figuring out why my horn and speed controls arent working on my steering wheel and after tearing it down I found out the column had been replaced. I have multiple connectors from the cab harness and only one 4 pin connector from the steering wheel and nothing able to plug in. I could easily by pass and just find which wires to delete but Id prefer to throw in a column/wheel that was originally equipped in the truck from the factory. My truck is an HD, so based on gvw it shouldnt have an air bag but when looking at the original 1996 window sticker from the dealership it was equipped with an “upgraded” tilt/speed control steering wheel. So im wondering if the original owner decided he wanted an airbag in it. and then somewhere down the line someone replaced the worn column with a non airbag setup. Would really be the only explanation i can think of as to why i have the extra connectors on my truck. I have a 92 f150 to reference from at the shop right now and its non airbag and the cab harness only has the same 4 pin connector that my column has.
So im bringing this to you guys hoping someone out there can confirm what column/steering wheel is needed based on the cab harness i have. Whether thats tilt/airbag, tilt/speed control, or tilt/airbag/speed control.
Ill attach some pictures of the connections and steering wheel i currently have to reference from.
Current steering wheel in the truck(speed controls/no airbag)
The only connector that comes off the current steering wheel
The multiple connections that come out of the truck harness that have no where to plug into
How the f150 steering column connects to truck harness
Hopefully all that makes sense and yall get what im going for, thanks in advance
