I’ve got a 6.8l v10 X and I’ve only had it for about 3 weeks now. I bought it from a dealer in Arlington and drove it back home about 300 miles. Ran great. But a week later I was sitting in the drive through for far too long (slow workers) and the engine started getting hotter and the air conditioner stopped blowing cold air. Anybody else experience this with the v10? It might be normal. It only got up the 3/4 on the temp gauge. I’m replacing the thermostat today to see if that helps.
Thanks for the idea. I hear the fan on. I don’t feel any play in the bearing. I’ve considered that. If the thermo doesn’t fix it I might replace that to be on the safe side. I’ve also been thinking of addin a fan in front of the radiator. I live in West Texas and the temps get up to 110 so sitting in a drive though get pretty hot.
You might get some non-acidic coil cleaner and make sure that the radiator and A/C condenser coils are clean, too. If they can't exchange heat easily you'll get the symptoms you described.
Get yourself some sort of ODBII reader to show you the actual cooling water temperature, the dash gauge is actually only a multi-position idiot light and is far from accurate. The Torque app is very popular and cheap used along with a proven OBDII dongle.
The engine temp getting hot sitting at the drive through doesn't really explain the air conditioning getting warm at the same time, the AC condenser is in front of the radiator and first in line of the air flow through the stack.
Did the engine actually "overheat" (as in boil over coolant from the expansion tank) or did it just see some elevated above normal temps?
