egr delete vs block off debate

so iv decided on the no limit tyrant tunes ez lynk with sotf for my 17 , now i can't decide on full egr kit with pass thru or the block off plates...iv deleted a 13 6.7 for a friend in the past wasn't terribly bad, but is there any pros/cons or gains in removing the cooler, any benefit to the engine? any chance of it failing? like on the 6.0/6.4? just not sure if i should remove the entire cooler/egr or just remove the pipes, unplug harness and install the 4 no limit plates.

Most guys remove it to clean the engine bay up. It is a lot safer to leave em on the trucks since the EGR valve is on the hot side of the coolers now. The 6.0 and 6.4 had the valves on the cold side, which allowed the gasses to flow through the cooler. They then dead headed at the valve that is electronically closed. On the 6.7s, the valve is on the hot side. So with it closed, no gasses make it into the cooler. This gives you less risk of a cooler rupturing from hot/trapped gasses.

Best route if you plan on leaving the cooler on the truck is to run block off plates. This removes the EGR crossover tubes.

Block off plates get my vote. Removes the piping to the egr on both sides so no chance of it failing, and the coolant still flows thou the cooler so no chance of dead heading the flow. Gives you a accurate spot for a egt probe as well. Way less labor, easily reversible if needed. I have that no limit set by the way, fits like a dream

agreed, this is the route I took with my '16. Looks like I soon will have an annual wrench party to meet emission inspections come 2019...

I am new to all of the discussion on EGR issues. I have a 2012 6.7 with 80K miles on it. I have been getting about 17 mpg when not towing. A month ago I had the check engine light come on and I swung by the dealer to have them pull the code. It is for an EGR temp sensor. Told me Ok to drive until I have time to do without the truck and they can fix it. I have driven about 800 miles not towing anything, driving non interstate roads since then and I am getting 21 mpg! It was 22 until regens kicked in and dropped it. This is the best mileage I've ever gotten. If not fixing these sensors won't cause problems, I'd be thrilled to leave it alone. Can anybody definitively explain why the failed sensor could result in a 4mpg (23%) improvement in mileage, and if so will this cause problems down the road?
