For the one buyilding the new fire alarm system was not necessary but our fire safety team took the opportunity to upgrade the system while they could. I think the renovation cost in the ball park of 2 million. They also had to do some asbestos abatement as well.
By now most places have already removed most other than some small areas that were not feasible to remove. We did a couple of buildings and some of the plumbing was in an isolated area and not accessed unless a repair was required. It was vented filtered and encapsulated. It was certified 100 years or the life of building. To my knowledge it is still there.
In the last few years I have dealt with integrated alarm systems.
Whats left here on campus is very minor. I think a few doors where it is still encapsulated. But as we replace stuff around campus those will disappear. The one buildingit was in the drywall compound.
They did that for years with the plastered walls. I remember in the 60's they had these 4x8 feet 1.5 inch thick that was an asbestos sheet for commercial buildings and ceilings.
To my knowledge nothing in my house has it. Built in about 75 and knowing the builder asbestos products (if available) would have been too expensive for to use! He cheaped out everywhere he could! LOL
