Composite has also been called “hi-level” or aerodynamic headlamps in the past. These take a halogen bulb in the back. The sealed beams have black plastic trim and are glass headlights because the whole this is the bulb, and it comes out of the front. It is held in with a trim ring.
Just seeing that pic and just got delivery from Carvana for my van. Thing is new on the inside! 2012 with only 17,700
Niw i understand looking at the owners manual and that pic. Mine is a xlt so it has the aerodynamic housing. Not the sealed beams.
So so is there anything out there other than bulb swap or a retrofit with projectors?
Dont think I’m interested in a retrofit. Had that on my 2012 f150. But I’ll look at LED bulb swap maybe. I did it on my 2018 f150 and it’s real nice. Few years ago I wouldn’t have because the output wasn’t great and the glair was bad. But they have new designs that mimic filament bulbs so it works like a OEM bulb as far as glair.
If you'd like to explore something a bit more exotic in headlights try this site: Projector Headlights. This guy has a great reputation on an off-roading/RV van conversion site, worth a looksee.
Dig around while there for the E-Series offerings---not cheap but great for a lot of uses.

Yea I had some real nice retro fit HID headlights and fog lights on my 2012 F150 that were real nice but real spendy. On my 2018 I put some Diode Dynamic LEDs in the heads and fogs and have good results. The new style LEDs that mimic filament bulbs VS just LED chips surround it do real good in factory halogen headlights in regards to glare. Since this is not my daily driver and really is a "work" van I will likely try the LEDs and maybe add some Rigid style LED lights in the lower grill. I see 2 holes already in the inside of the bumper that might work?
On our first trip in the van we got caught in the rain on a dark night on some small, narrow roads and I was severely underwhelmed with the stock headlights - quite a bit of traffic meant I had to keep them on low beams all the time and it was not fun. Goldie, our 2009 E350, is our adventure vehicle, not the daily driver, so I being cheap I went for LED replacement bulbs. I found what I was looking for at Super Bright LEDs and got a pair of their H13 LED Fanless bulbs for about $75. I did the swap, which was straightforward - I could see a huge difference just swapping one bulb and comparing it to the old one. I am not an expert, but I read a ton of reviews and these seemed to be the best spread of light and cost...they turned out to be exactly what I was looking for! They are very bright on low beams, really lighting up the night - bright white, not the golden candle glow of the originals -= they really light up the deer eyes! High beams are decent, too, not as amazing as the low beams, but I haven't tested them out at speed, yet, just in the neighborhood. I couldn't live with the stock bulbs, just a LED bulb switch was a huge step up.
