In the case of the Nickle alloy plant I worked in, we had 4 machine shops and made replacement nonexistent parts for equipment made as far back as the 20's

The "Machine Shop" had "bar peelers" we called them. The shortest could take a piece about 24" by 10 feet. We had several 24" by 40 feet. One table lathe had a table close to 20 feet sq. We had rod ovens that would take 50 foot pieces. The small machine shop was in the same building and had one or more of about every lathe I have ever seen. The other shop had several newer CNC units. One shop had 5-6 or so pieces of equipment and turned out test pieces. One shop was In R&D and turned out test and small special items. Another was dedicated to mill rolls about 20 feet long and up to 6 feet in Diameter.
