I have most of my door plate items found, but cannot quite figure out the interior trim. The only thing I can think of would be on the body code. Mine is 581, and I want to assume that the trim is supposed to be the 5? If so, something isn't right as my interior is black and white, except for a red column and wheel. Nothing has been changed on this truck interior wise, as my grandfather bought it new and told me he only changed the size tires he used. Would appreciate help on figuring this out. Thanks
581 - 5 = Red crush vinyl and red wicker pattern vinyl - 81 = 81A Standard Cab
There was no black and white option so something must have been changed out. Take a picture of the seat and post it if you can.
The guy in this ad is talking about his original seat upholstery is not torn and would look nice without the blanket. Unfortunately, that's not original upholstery.
Seat upholstery is not original. From what I can see the dash pad is not original, either. Not very many of these trucks left with their original upholstery still intact.
Alrighty. I guess he forgot about having it done. That makes sense though. I appreciate the help! Thanks man!
ps
Where would I look for a new core support? I'm new to the restoration process and have really only looked through LMC and they only have core supports for the 4x4. Is there a difference?
Yes, there is a difference. The 1966 2WD core support should have cage nuts on the support in the area of the battery tray whereas the 4x4 has no similar cage nuts in that area since the battery is under the floorboards. Also, the 4x4 support doesn't have the angled brackets that support the inner fenders on the 1966 2WD. You can cut pieces from the 2WD core support and apply them to the 4x4 support and make something workable, but there are other subtle differences, too.
Mine 1966 F100 is a 581 too… The 5 stands for “interior trim code 5” Red crush vinyl and red wicker pattern vinyl. The 81 stands for “body code 81” Standard Cab. The Custom Cab options package is denoted by a letter suffix (581B) but isn’t shown on the vehicle tag. From what I’ve read, it’s only shown on the order sheet and or build sheet and in the parts catalogue.

For 1966 there wouldn't be a 581B. The reference I use is the Master Parts Catalog - Soft Trim Parts section. The 81A or 81B is shown in the second column.
Each year can be different from other years so it's best to look it up. Some have assumed a leading number instead of a letter means Standard Cab. Not necessarily. These are two of the three 1966 specific pages.
581 in 1966 is always 581A Standard Cab.
From the few build sheets I've seen it isn't listed on it. This is the build sheet for one of my own 1966 E81 Custom Cab trucks.
