Ch3vy motors in Ford trucks?

What's the deal with restoring Ford trucks with Ch3vy motors? I was trolling through F-100 listings on ebay and I randomly clicked on three trucks, all restored with Ch3vy engines.

In addition, I've got a buddy with a restored '50 Ford truck that has a Ch3vy 350 in it - he didn't really have an answer for me.

Is this not blasphemy, or not a big deal? Am I the only one who feels this way?

Let me preface my answer by saying I'm a hard core FE guy and I have a soft spot for the inline 6 from Ford. That being said, the Chevy 350 is one of the highest volume engines ever made ..partly due to its very long life span in the vicinity of 40 years. It's relatively cheap to build and there's a bigger selection of trannies to go behind it. Ford, for whatever reason, is more limiting in regards to trannies that can go behind many of its engines.

Yeah the market made it easier to use 350s by providing more aftermarket parts as well. However in the last ten years I’ve seen more Ford rods and restos using ford motors.

IMO, it’s just parts.
It’s kinda weird that people have any “feelings” about it all. Maybe it’s the result of decades of marketing.
I mean, would you care if someone put a Peugeot engine in their Citroen? Of course not...but maybe if you grew up in France you would....idk?

Disclaimer: I’m currently putting a Silverado motor in my F250....hee hee

Ford has factory installed other than Ford engines in trucks for many years. Shucks, they even built a Taurus with a Japanese engine a few years back. SBC is a good engine with lots of aftermarket parts availability. And, as stated above, parts interchangeability is wide.

I come from a Chevy background, still have more of them in my fleet than anything else, but putting one in a Ford is just silly when Ford made good engines too. To me the Windsor series is boring and overdone, just like the sbc, but a Cleveland, FE, or 300, that's interesting stuff. I think people take the Chevy route thinking it will be easy, but when you have to change EVERYTHING, it's not so easy.

Here in Fairbanks is a 50 Chevy 3100 with a Ford 302 in it which drives people crazy.

Today, a guy can build a complete "Ford" motor with aftermarket parts. In fact, companies like BBM are casting nice FE blocks and heads in South Korea and Scat is making nice cast and steel cranks in China for several different motors.

And don't forget good American companies like Edelbrock making heads, intakes, fuel pumps, carbs, water pumps, etc here in the US.

The point is that even if a guy has a Ford engine, it may not be from FoMoCo.

Less expensive to swap to an LS Chevrolet engine than to install a Coyote. Aftermarket/performance parts are also cheaper for Chevrolet than for Ford.

I probably wouldn't put an engine other than a Ford in my Ford but, I dont have any say in what someone else does with a vehicle they own and paid for with their own money.

Friends used to frequent the big Mustang show in Kentucky. Seems there was a '69 camaro that used to show up. The owner put a 351W in it. They used to give him 1/2 a trophy.

if you want a chevy motor, then buy a chevy, if you want a ford motor, buy a ford. Don't mix the two of them together. I like chevy, and i like ford, they both have their strong spots and their weak spots, but i lean heavily towards the ford side of the argument. I've always threatened to take a 1990 Corvette and do the exact opposite of the cookie cutter hotrods by taking a flat head, buggy suspension, wire wheels, and a bench seat out of a '32 ford and put it in the vette. I'd take it to cars shows just to **** people off.

There was a member of our Ford club who had a corvette that was a salvage title car, he had planned to put a 460 in it. Lucky for the local Chevy guys, hurricane Katrina took out everything he had. 13 years ago.
I bet if the Freightrain’s friend had the engine car combination the other way he would have been given a full trophy.

First, thanks gents for all the replies. As a recent F-100 owner, I was a little surprised at this trend - not totally disgusted, but just unaware that it was a thing.

And being 60 years old, I do remember the "Ford v Chevy" of my youth.
