Front frame brackets?

New here I have a 2011 F-250 and it has two pieces of metal that look kinda like scoops hanging from the front of the frame rails. I am curious as to what they are for? It looks like they are bolted on.

Those brackets serve the same purpose as the "crash bar" on the older model Super Dutys. They are there to meet Federal DOT requirements with respect to bumper heights to prevent your truck from climbing up and over a smaller vehicle (think a Miata in a head-on) in the event of a collision. The brackets are supposed to be low enough to engage the bumper of the smaller vehicle.
