Wires under seat

Last night the connector under the driver seat on my 05 f250 caught fire. I put it out, and cut it off. From what ive gathered its for the seat belt reminder alarm, however if i leave it unplugged will it do anything with the airbag? I kind of assumed it was also telling the computer that someone is in the seat. Trying to figure out if its worth replacing.

same here on my 2006. Disconnected it years ago because the seatbelt is annoying to wear when plowing. No issues; no warning lights.
