My '04 Ranger drivers seat has a 4-wire connector plug. Two of the wires (blk/silver dots) go the the seat belt latch (closed w/ no belt, open with belt) and the other 2 (red/wht) disappear up into the seat. Does anyone here know what/where these wires are or have access to a seat wiring diagram? Any info appreciated.

Probably the air bag sensors to see how much you weigh?
Like for example, my grandmother has an '03 Yukon GT and it has an array of wires running up there. I myself wondered what they were. Some ran to the power seat controls, some to seat belt indicators, but several of them ran to weight and position sensors in the seat. As small as she is it turns the air bag off, but when I get in, and if I sit correctly, it turns it back on.

I believe the wires go from the seat to the restraint system module. After reading your post I put a meter across the 2 wires (there was continuity) and then sat in the seat ..... no difference with my 185 pounds there or not.

It sounds like you are looking at the seat belt Pretensioner Circuit. In a crash the restraint system will fire an explosive charge to tighten the seat belt around you. Be carefull fooling around with it, it could hurt you and they are several hundered dollars to replace.

I was told that there are weight sensors in the seat so if theres less then 60-80lbs the air bag wont go off. Think about it, if your only 80 lbs you are going to sit pretty close to the dahs and the air bag is going to break your nose if it were to go off.
Thanks for the response. I usually just jump into a project feet first, but the mental vision of my air bags deploying caused me to be a little more cautious with this one.

Be careful, we don't need you writing us a story of how you broke your nose.
My nose has been broken three times, but the one time I got a face full of air bag I didn't get a scratch. My new drivers seat has only four wires, two from the latch and two (power & ground) for the seat motors. My original seat has two latch wires and two wires to the restraint system. I think I can wire up the latch wires to the original pins in the truck connector and jump the two others together. I think this should put me back in normal again and turn off the flashing air bag indicator. I was hoping some wise Ford technician out there would read my mournful plea and mercifully verify this. I need to finish up on the seats so I can start on the center console. I'll try to post some pics when I'm finished.

I don't have a book with me but someone should be able to id the color codes on the wires and tell you what they are for.
What is the blink code from the air bag indicator, (4 blinks then 6 blinks..repeating several times...something like that ) it should tell you what is failing the system check.
Note that the the airbag system is NOT WORKNG if the A/B light is on.
It is not legal to disconnect/modify the restrant system.
(some ford shops will not let a customer have a vehicle back if it has an A/B code light)
If it is the belt Pretensioner Circuit is faulting a short or an open will not allow a pass on the system test. UNDER NO CIRCUNSTANCES PUT 12 VOLTS ON ANY OF THE WIRES!!!! The wrong one and YOU WILL TRIP IT AND IT WILL FIRE...
I will tell you it would be wise to disconnect the battery before "tweeking" with the A/B or belt Pretensioners. If you set it off, figure on 1-2 maybe 3k for new a/b's and belt Pretensioner's.
I never thought about it but on the 01 and later rangers, changing the seats will be a problem with the a/b light if the belt Pretensioner Circuit are disconnected.
I would not recommend it but a work around might be to install the belt pretensioners from the old seat to the new seats.
Lets see what the codes are and then maybe we can work something out...
PM me if it is the belt pretensioners causing the trouble and we will talk.
dono, the manual shows a light green and a black wire for the seat belt buckle switch which is for the "fasten belts" light on the dash.
The seat belt pretensioner wires should be light green/black and light green/ red.
Without the proper resistance of the pretensioner in the circuit the air bag light will be on and the air bags wont work.
I would suggest calling someone who might have VERY extensive knowledge of the diagram and be able to find out what you would need to add to correct it such as resistors or something of that like.
