Tank selector valve

I have a 78 F150 2wd with dual tanks. My question is how do you test the tank selector to make sure its working. I do know the switch is out, power in, no power out.

It should put power out on the rear, 'aux' tank. No power on when on front tank.

I understand that. I think I didn't state it properly. There is no power coming out of switch in the aux position. Is there a good way to test the selector valve using a different power source? I've been soaking the mounting bolts so to make sure of a good ground.

I forgot to add: Do something to stop your fuel line from the tanks to not run out of the hose. With the valve disconnected, you'll have a siphon situation.
