Ribbed and smooth c-6

What is the difference between a ribbed and smooth bell housing on a c-6?

The low reverse clutch spring pack is / 'can' be different in the older ribbed case C6's, but I have seen later ribbed cases with the newer style too, just not the non ribbed case. The low reverse clutch's springs are loose in the older style. In the newer ones the springs are mounted to the retainer. I think the piston was different too in the older style to hold the loose springs. I don't know why they changed it, one is as good as the other as far as I know. Valve bodies were always changing through the years. The main thing to be concerned with is if you need your reverse / neutral switch on the case. Some cases, ribbed or not don't have the bolt holes to mount the switch on the case.
