Fuel pump problem 6.9 IDI

Yesterday went to start truck like normal and cranked and crank but would not fire. Gauge read 1/4 tank and figured might just be wrong and could be out of diesel, so put more in and pull started it and fired up. Figured the problem was solved but truck wouldn't start again so i thought maybe fuel pump is bad, so I took off the plug to the front fuel tank and tried to find power to both holes but couldn't find any (key was turned and front tank was selected). So i flipped the switch to rear tank and did the same still no power. Would like help finding where my problem is, looked at a diagram on the internet of the fuse panel and it only showed a fuse for the aux tank solenoid checked it and it was fine. I can hear something click when I flip the switch so something is happening. I checked the schraeder valve and had no fuel pressure with the key turned on. Before this all became an Issue i had tried changing fuel tanks and the fuel gauge would not change whether front tank or rear tank were selected, not sure if its related but ANY help is appreciated, was planning on going on a truck cruise this weekend and hope it is still a possibility. I guess i've done what i know and can do just a 15 yr old trying to get my truck going again lol.

Unless someone has changed your truck you don't have an electric fuel pump. You have a mechanical lift pump on the passenger side. Looks and operates like a mechanical fuel pump used for decades before "technology" made things "better". From there you have the filter housing and on to the injector pump which is driven by the cam. It's very possible you have an aftermarket electric fuel pump to do the job of the lift pump. A lot of times people add the electric pump rather than replacing the mechanical pump because it's easier. What I think you're hearing click when you flip the switch is the fuel shutoff solenoid on top of your injector pump

Check the output of a mechanical fuel pump this way:

1) Remove the fuel IN line to the fuel filter housing.
2) Put fuel line in an empty coffee can.
3) Crank engine

You should see fuel going into the coffee can. With an electric pump you should see fuel in the coffee can by switching the ignition to RUN. Either that or someonee wired an electric fuel pump to switched 12V.

Let us know if you have an aftermarket electric or OE mechanical fuel pump.
