Many of us add a tranny cooler. Right there we've just increased the oil capacity. No problem !
.
I'm on The Left Coast. The word "tranny" just makes me cringe, vomit a little in my mouth, then swallow the vomit to punish myself. Especially when people talk about "tranny fluid".
Which is why I lost all respect for Patrick Swayze after his performance in "To Wong Foo". His performance was good. A little too good. Almost as if that was not his first time in drag.
Along with the Mag Hytec diff cover & transmission pan, I also added a transmission cooler with a fan. Like I said, 10 years +, and I haven't had a problem. But that doesn't mean that there isn't a problem. I just haven't broken down yet. The important thing is that the diff cover is bling, and people behind you notice it right before they rear end you.
For years, guys with Mustangs installed diff covers......for more fluid capacity, and the cooling fins......not to mention that you can pull the magnetic dipstick to check the fluid & clean off the metal sludge. If you perform the drain & fill often enough, you don't worry about all the sludge in the differential that you have to clean out with 100,000 mile transmission fluid exchanges.
But I never saw a track car, or street racer, with a clear cover.
Fifty - no offense, but judging by the pictures, anyone behind you able to SEE the bling cover is in a Triumph Spitfire or maybe a lowered Miata. Me, I like the idea of adding oil capacity (dunno about the 'clear' idea?) but I am too stupid to understand how when the original geometry of the immediate oil bath container is unchanged all around the gears, that adding additional volume behind the gears is gonna deprive them of oil. Just doesn't sound right. Now whether a new cover may be in a range I consider silly expensive vs. the added capacity? That's another question.

Of course nobody is going to see the cover.........that's what I don't understand.......why would anyone call it "bling"? Is my cold air intake, under the hood, considered "bling"?
Any change in the interior of the cover will change the volume of fluid and how it flows. But is it a good or bad change? Same controversy with any and every mod. Are intakes "worth it"?
That is why what Banks is doing is so interesting. For years, we had no information other than what the sellers wanted to tell you. And now, we get to see testing and it's not filtered or biased by somebody who is trying to sell the product to you.
Having watched both parts 1 an 2 in their entirety its my OPINION that the bling and fancy covers are dysfunctional and counter productive in practical terms unless you count the psychic satisfaction part. In other words, they are nothing more than bling that may shorten differential mechanical and fluid life expectancy as well as decrease fuel economy.
MY 2 cents worth

Yes. Along with your chrome valve covers, color-keyed wire looms, and clear distributor cap! Who is going to see those? Your motor-head friends. And they will probably bother to crawl under the truck and behold the splendor that is your fancy differential cover with some form to go along with, and hopefully not impede, its function...
If bling exists but no one ever sees it, the person who installed it will still know it's there...
I really don't think that an after market cover is going to do any good or bad to your differential. People have been running them for years and years with no problems. People also run stock covers for longer with no issues. The factory cover is just stamped steel. Cheaper to make and cheaper to replace. I don't understand why people would waste over $200 but we have all seen much much more money wasted, especially on newer trucks. I say, if it keeps American people employed to make useless parts, keep making them.
My truck came with a 4 quart pan. The Mag Hytec pan holds 8 quarts. The Mag Hytec also has a drain plug which allows for more frequent drain and fill without having to take the pan off. And all that bling to show off when I run someone over and they are staring up at the transmission pan.
It could also be the case that the bean counters are involved. Shallower covers save on material used. Also it's easier on dies and materials to stamp curved surfaces. The bean counters don't worry about drain plugs or labor to change fluid.
