Horn relay

Think I'm about to give you an even dumber reply. Tho I dont know where the relay is on rangers, in other vehicles I've worked on they are usually to be found under the dash on the driver's side near the fuse panel. Good luck.

For those interested, I finally found the problem. it was the dual spring loaded contact swith on the back of the steering wheel. I don't even think this truck has a Horn Relay. Thanks !

Your truck probably DOES have a relay, jwilson. That switch on the steering wheel is too puny to handle current requirements demanded by the horn. That goes for Rangers and probably most other vehicles. Glad you found an answer to your problem.

On my 1998, horn relay is under the hood in the main electrical/relay box on the driver's side toward the rear. See the picture, but it is nuber 7 which will be toward the back of the truck in the box (ignore the arrows, they were for my foglights, I stole the pic from another thread). The horn relay fuse is #10 as you can see. I'm not sure how your '87 will be.

I sure thank you for the info. but my 87 does not have this electrical box under the hood on the drivers side. it does have some relays on the passenger side under hood but those are for other things and they all have 4 contacts, from what I can gather the horn reley should have 3. Thanks anyway.

Yeah, I posted before I thought to read what year your truck was, but I thought it might be relevant to the topic anyway. Does anyone have a similar diagram for your year (Haynes or the owner's manual)?
