Advice on replacing brake lines

I blew a hole in my medal brake line that runs along the frame from the master cylinder to the back. I was wondering if you guys had any tips on where to get a new one, also tips on how to change it, I already bought the rear flex brake line becuase thats what i thought it was initially so I will be putting that in too.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to FTE!

Most of the auto parts stores that I went to when I was doing my brakes recently could only sell me the brake line and fittings and I'd have to bend it to shape myself. The dealer would probably have the preformed lines with the fittings and flares. I turned out not to need the lines, just some brake line fitting adapters.

thanks for the reply, I wish I just needed some line fittings but I have a nice hole in the line and brake fluid all over my driveway lol. I am going to replace all lines under there because the other parts of the brake line don't look for behind this one.

That's a good plan. You won't be sorry that you did the work. On the whole, brake parts are fairly cheap but it sure makes the truck feel a lot better when they work the way that they are supposed to. Sorry I couldn't be more help on where to find the lines. Hope you find it alright.

Hi, I had the same problem on my 91 ranger supercab. I took out the gas tank to fix it correctly. you may be able to get the line outta there without doing this. Mine requires 2 sticks of brake line (straight tube, from autozone), with a coupling in the middle to join them. I used a cheapo brake line bender and it ended up being the perfect length! Good luck to ya! Oh yeah, you will have to cut the front fitting off your old line, and cut the tip off your new line and put the old fitting on it and reflare the tube. Its a funky fitting that will not come on the universal brake line.

Hello youvebeenbit94,
Through my experiences, tawd is the one that I'd follow. I'd just like to add my advice to help you along with your task at hand.
When doing hydraulic high pressure flaring, there is a term that is used called DOUBLE FLARING. This is accomplished by having the tubing made to roll inward into itself, creating a DOUBLE WALL CONSTRUCTION. What I have described to you should be on the Flaring Tool Case / Box that you will also need to do this job. I haven't done flaring in a while and it took me a few tries "to get it right again" on my 90 Ranger 2.3L w/ Power Steering. I'm a Safety Oriented Individual and I care about doing the right thing. Hope this dosen't scare you. Just practice making the flare per the accompaning instructions...AND DON'T FORGET TO PUT ON THE HIGH PRESSURE FITTING BEFORE FLARING COMMENCES... which can be used over again. OH YEH! You'll also need a tubing cutter and a file do it right.

Hi youvebeenbit94,
The perfect length is determined by if you have ever done double flaring before. If you are a flaring expert; 1st shot all the time, then here goes: I did a tape measurement by crawling under my 90 Ranger and adding 4" for bends. Hoping this works for you.
