intermittently won't idle
New member here that has searched all posts for my particular problem. When my 94 5.8 efi w/178K miles starts up on SOME mornings it will not idle, must be feathered to keep it running. Seems to happen more often on cold mornings. Most times it will smooth out after a few seconds sometimes after warming up, but sometimes not. Had started to notice the problem last winter but as the summer came the problem became much less noticable. So I let it go. Getting colder here in New England and the problem has reappeared. Have replaced plugs, dist cap and cleaned throttle body w/ spray cleaner. I read about the IAC valve. Mine is definately old...rusty, probably past the 50K miles it's supposed to last. Any tips for a good parts replacer (not much of a mechanic) without a code reader? Thanks, Spunk

get a code reader for 30 bucks at a local parts store...good investment...try cleaning the iac with carb cleaner....i did this and it helped clear up some problems...check for ease of movement with the valve...hope i helpeded
